Happy New Year to All! I thought I would post something to this lonely ol' forum. I really need the practice posting pics. It only took me an hour this time, but I think I'm getting it. It is a Headhunters tradition to try and find atleast one whole point on the first day of the year. This is what I found yesterday. I went to a spot in Johnston Co., NC, that used to be all fields and is now nothing but 'House Farms'. These were all found in new developements along a 3 mile stretch of road. It is kind-of unusual to find nothing but quartz, but the closer to the coast you get, the better your chances. Left to right: 1,2,3,4. Numbers 1 & 2 are both Kirks and are about 9000 years old. #1 is alittle older style and, believe it or not, it is whole. It used to be as long as #2 but has been reworked to what you see there. (That man must've been really hungry.) #3 is the only true 'arrowhead' in the bunch and is probably only 1-2000 years old. It is missing the teeniest little bit from its point, but I am counting it as whole. #4 is a knife, and is hard to date, probably 1-5000 years old. The scraper at the bottom was nice enough to stick in the pic. So, after about a 6 hour walk on the first day of 2008, I have 2 whole and 2 broken. Happy Hunting in the New Year, Joe.

Joe:
It looks as though you are getting a handle on posting pictures. Congratulations. As for the Indian artifacts, you did well for a single day out with 4 quartz pieces. I searched for many years and did not find very many pieces made from the white rock. I hope you are doing well, haven't seen you lately. Take care and may you have a good year in 2009.

Very nice! I sure would like a chance to look for artifacts again. Are there any more trips in the works? I got so fascinated by this on our recent Savannah agate trip and have been reading about the Topper site. I didn't know there was so much controversy about it.

I don't know when we may be getting back down to the Sav. River. I know I would like to get back down there at some point, but don't know yet when that might be. It is real nice to do it during the winter months without bugs and stuff, but the best months for actually visiting the Topper site are May and June. And, Oh Yeah there's controversy! Anytime you try and change the history books there's bound to be some of that. I just think it's pretty cool that it is happening right here in our own backyard, so to speak.

Those are some good looking finds! I am glad to know that I was not the only person out looking for points on years day. I found 5 and several shards of pottery, but I dont have a camra.
