What do you think, Kyanite? This is from garnet hill on 98.

Scott, I know there's supposed to be quite a bit of kyanite in that area, so I'd say it's certainly possible.

Thank you, I remember being told there was kyanite there by a professor when I was a student. Just hadn't been shown that many examples of grey or clear kyanite. Here's a couple pictures of the kyanite wraping around a garnet.

There is Kyanite at this location along with Sillimanite and the garnets. That looks typical for the location. Nice rocks!

Wondering--what type of garnet is that? The faceted kind? I have a bunch of garnets that seem to be mostly rounder and crumbly looking. What are they called? Thanks, fredda

Thanks, fredda These are just regular almandine variety garnets. Unfortunately, I've been told they are not very facetable because they are filled with fractures. Of course I have no experience with faceting and there's a possibility that some facet grade garnets can come out of this stuff. Can I have that? kyanite wrapped around the garnet? please? Sure! Give me your address and I'll ship it to you. The location is just down the street from me, so I can get as much as I want. ;D
