Unable to identify this with books, does anyone have an idea what this specimen is? It has the 'glassyness' and fractured look of obsidian except for the red bands throughout the piece.

digdug, obsidain sometimes has reddish orange and clear bands running through it. here is a good link on the different types of obsidian. it is hard to tell from your pic if this is really what it is for sure gwydir.demon.co.uk/jo/minerals/obsidian.htmbrock

Hey Brock,
Thanks for that link. I just discovered that there were several pieces of obsidian in our Mason Mountain salted bucket finds. I wondered if the stones were some kind of coal; now I know better. Appreciate the help.
