This is an interesting article I found Friday in the Richmond paper about a firm that is testing for Uranium near Chatham,Va. I've know for a long time that Uranium is fairly previlent in Virginia but I didn't know that the state actually has a moritorium on mining it. I don't see what the problem is, those suckers in Dinwiddie county have been drinking it out of their well water for years. ;D ;D www.inrich.com/cva/ric/search.apx.-content-articles-RTD-2007-12-21-0012.html

There are 3 sites currently being looked at for uranium mining in Va. This battle is getting old.

neato As I understand alot of environmentalists are starting to look at nuclear energy as being "clean". It seems to me to be more of a tradeoff than being cleaner. Diffusing massive amounts of pollutants into the atmosphere(fossil fuels) as opposed to concentrated extremely radioactive toxic byproducts. Only plus side that I know of is that a company has recently filed a patent for a way to shorten radioactive half-lifes (apparantly not as constant as we thought they were). I think we are gonna see a whole lot more mining of radioactive material in the US. It's something we are just gonna have to get used to. Bryce

Shakespeare, William "Much Ado About Nothing". I don't think the uranium occurances in the mid Atlantic states have ever been rich enough to mine. (With one exception in New Jersey.) There is much more available in the Western US and many areas of Canada.

Apparently there's enough in the state to warrent mining investigations. It may be too old or too deep to economically mine and be useful but it's there. Just by surface observations there's enough evidence to suggest that. Counties in south-central Virginia, especially, have problems with moderate concentrations of uranium in well water and radon build-up basements and such, although this can happen throughout the state.

If you were to file a claim on a uranium mine you found and sold it you would make a boat load of money
