Hey guys! I just thought I'd post some pictures of the kyanite I've been able to find in my garden, lol. I went with my best friend to Buncombe county looking for kyanite without any luck. I came home and told my grandfather about it, and he pulled a piece out of an old freezer container he had. I about fell over when he said he found it years ago in what is now our potato garden. I ran straight home and started looking around down there, and I found several good size (I think) pieces. They've got a lot of brown and silverish-gray to them, but some pieces do have some nice blue. The second largest piece I had (first piece I found), my best friend cabbed into a long rectangular pendant for me, and it cleaned up really nicely. I wish I had a picture of the pendant, it's really beautiful. This piece made the pendant I have. ^ They may not be as blue as some that I've seen, but they were my first real 'finds' and I love them!

You can usually find small containers of Super Iron-Out in the plumbing section of most grocery stores, but you also might want to stop by a Super Wal-Mart. In their plumbing section, they carry larger containers for a reduced price that will save you a lot of money over the long haul if you have lots of specimens to soak. Anybody who ever makes a trip to Diamond Hill will attest to the fact that you will go through a lot of Super Iron-Out while removing the iron stains from your specimens. Lately, I've been burning through the stuff like there's no tomorrow.

;DAlso check in the cleaning supplies section of walmart or even the dollar store for a product called the works this contains oxalic acid and works really good on the iron stains. Makes my diamond hill stuff sparkle. 8-)Pat

Rockrunner, I had some kyanite pieces from Walker Creek and after reading this post, I went back and soaked them in Super Iron Out for nearly a week. They came out gorgeous!! You almost don't recognize them when they're done. So do try Rick's advice - you won't be disappointed. Oh, I bought my SIO at Lowe's - it was in the section with other cleaning supplies. Dave

I've looked at a couple local grocery stores and haven't been able to find any SIO, I do however work at our local Walmart, lol. I can never remember to look for some after a long day of ringing up tons of groceries I'll have to go out there today since I'm off work and get some!
