Here are a few more photos of the Herkimers we found on our trip to Herkimer, N.Y. This is one of my favorite specimen found. It is a pocket with about four Calcite crystals and three Herkimers in the pocket. This is a Herkimer in Calcite. It is about one inch. Will have to put in acid to see what I got. A few more photos of Herkimers. Hope you enjoyed these as much as I did finding them. Denny ;D

Denny:
Thanks for the additional pictures of the herkimers. All you have done is make my desire to go rock hounding to the herkimer collecting area even greater. I have not seen pictures of herkimers in and on base rock before. I like the way they are in small holes in the rock. It must be great to be breaking rock and suddenly find a hole of beautiful crystals.

Great crystals, Denny! I collected there when I was a teen (back in pleistocene). It's great fun, isn't it?

Thar ain't no air up here, Denny! I get winded going up and down the hill at our cabin- it's over 9500 ft. Found some monazite near there this summer. I've been searching years for monazite at the rare earth pegmatites in the Trout Creek district. Not much to look at- crusts of root beer colored micro crystals... But I finally found it! Found chunks of euxenite and bismutite, too. They're even uglier! The thrill is in the hunt?

Say hello to Colorado form me....I attended (wasted) Western State College in 97, 98......even lite the letters on the hill and caught my pants on fire....everyone saw the odd dot (me) rolling down the hill....any way I stayed yearsin Delta with the SCS....I've hiked over 2000 miles of that beautifl state and hope to return. I walked the irrigation ditches doing habitat resturation acreage for the salinity program...also 200 miles of the continental divide doing edible plants for the park service....I was not into rocks then, but plants. good thing for I would have never had a job.....any how hope all is well, just squeeze a handful of that soil for me. You've got it, Colorado. I moved here for grad school at CSM and never left. It's a wonderful state, although some areas are getting a bit too crowded.
