Hello Everyone,
I just got back from my first rockhounding trip. I returned with topaz in rhyolite, trilobite and plant fossils in shale, obsidian (snowflake, standard, and mahogany), and creamcicle selenite.
Now that I have it all, I am looking at equipment to clean up the specimins and poilish some of the duller obsidian. I am looking at the Vaniman air abrader, but I'm not entirely sure what tips I would need and all of the other fine details. I have a compressor that can run it and am planning on adding a Dropout air dryer/filter system. Thoughts?
As for polishing/tumbling, what is everyone using? Does any of it last? Most of the reviews I see are hit and miss and most of the units seem to burn out within a couple years, I would like to avoid this.
Cheers, Andrew
