Howdy folks. I'm a geology student, I live in the Charlotte area, and prospect around the state for crystals and gold. Been at it for a few years and love it. This was a passion of mine when I was a child and many years later this passion resurfaced. I spend a lot of time in Uwharrie and have a couple of buddies that mine the area with me sometimes. If anyone is interested in making a group trip, mentor or student, then please let me know. I don't like mining jagged rock with boulders looming while I am alone.
I'm not much into sites that charge you to search, pan, dig, or whatever. I like to analyze geological data to determine potential hot spots and explore. To me that is half of the fun and it makes the discoveries that much more rewarding.

Hey! Sounds like fun! How do you find these hot spots?! I live in western NC and there are tons of mineral deposits near me! I found a rock with a bunch of garnets in my parents yard in Asheville this spring! Any ideas on how I can find out where it might have originated? Sorry if this is a stupid question, I'm relatively new to this.
