Hi , I'm new to rock hounding but have always been interested. I live in Wisconsin 6 months and in the Georgia/Alabama/Mississippi area the other 6 months. Any advice on the best places to go for just about anything! Thanks

Sarah, the area adjacent to N. Alabama, N. Georgia, in S.W. North Carolina, is an area of high mineralization with many abandoned and some active mines. This area is also an area where several National Forests, State Parks, and preservation lands are found co-joining each other... so rules for rockhounding may vary from a lot to none, you'll need to check. The Chunky Gal Mtn. are in N.C. is easily accessible and there are quite a number of minerals found together, in mine tailings as well as in the creeks and lake beds. Good luck!
