Hi, I found this fourm a few weeks ago and just registered today. I've recently discovered the joys of being a rockhound. Last summer I collected many nice pieces along Lake Superior. Most I was able to identify myself, but a few are giving me problems. Hopefully I can post them here for identification. This one I am windering if it is augite or horneblend? Or maybe I'm way off and it's something else? It's very fine textured, except for the silica crystals. Almost looks like silica in sandstone, but I'm sure it isn't. It's about 3 1/2" long, 5.6 oz/158.76 g and was found somewhere along the lake Superior shore (dont' remember where exactly) between Split Rock & Grand Marais. I would appreciate any assistance. Peridotite or an olivine schist is my stab in the dark. Which part of MN do you live?
