I found this specimen in NE Ohio - maybe was used as RR track ballast since I found it near some tracks but this was the only piece like this that I could find. It is soft and was easily ground down with diamond grinding equipment and took a polish quite nicely. Would like to find more like this for lapidary work. Has some nice white lines in it. No hardness differential though between the lines and the surrounding matrix. See pics.

Looking at this picture it is very difficult to determine what mineral this might be. I don't think that it is serpentine but it could be. It would need to be analyzed or looked at through a microscope to determine its identity. But since it has been sliced that might make it a little more difficult. I would venture out to say that it could be epidote. You would also need to know the location it came from which would be difficult coming off of a railroad system. Good luck!
