Hi all, new here. I'm a rockhound - hence why I joined - and have yearned to find my own treasures instead of having a collection that's 70% bought 30% found. Does anyone know of any great sites around the Houston Texas area for Rockhounding? Thanks a bunch!

Try HGMS.org (Houston Gem and Mineral Society). The clubhouse is near beltway 8W and 59S near Chinatown. They do some field trips. They are having a show in Humble the weekend after next. The Natural History Museum also does some field trips. Other than that Quartz and diamonds in Arkansas, Agate in west/south Texas, Quartz, Topaz, and Gold around Llano and Mason, and Petrified wood from College Station to Louisiana but I do not know of any "mines" that are open to the public right around Houston. Let me know if you find anything.
