hey nichwhitt ...nice piece, looks to be a good blue color to it as well. I don't see much hope in the orb department but I think you are looking past those beautiful small dendrites all around it. If you had wet the flat face before the photo I believe we could get a much better look at the material on this end. Looks wonderfully hard and I'd be looking an some very good scenery type cabs with those dendrites and colors. Keep dreaming and finding these nice goodies..your doing great in both departments.

Lol, thanks...I was hoping for orbs AND dendrites, then I would have to think good and hard about a good name, heh. Need a thinner blade before I can go much further, but cracking some of these open has sure got me worked up!

I agree with what Mikey said. It's hard to say for sure about the hardness from the pic, but the blue tint and dendrites are pretty darn nice. Be careful with your "thinner" blade. They can be very sensitive. Go slow.

It's softer than alot of the material I have been working with today. The pic was wet, and I was planning on posting a pic of the polished end piece, but in unnatural light it looked like crap compared to the above pic i took when the sun was out...either that, or I sanded off all the pretty!
Thanks for the advice, arappho. After sliceing a few open I decided that, with the tile saw, I do not really care for doing it. Thank goodness that the ol' man does. I will pass the info along.

heyy nichwhit...dendrites and orbs together....not a very frequent occurance but best of luck in hunt for that combo. Should be one heck of a winner if you find it. Not that hard ehh....I would have guessed this to be an agate or a fairly hard material. What size blade on the tile saw and are you cutting with water as a coolant. Are you hand holding the rock or clamping it in a vise? As arappaho mentions a slow feed is needed for thin blades and on the very thin ones a higher speed is often needed to get them to run true and flat.

Yeah, its quite soft. Water cooled and hand holding. The 7 inch blade is just some junk that came with the saw. Just a makeshift set up till I have more time to shop. My husband is doing the cutting and had a long history with saws and the like, so he understands how quick things can go wrong. I appreciate the input.
