A wildfire broke out yesterday about 12:30 and is now about 2500 acres big. They have mandatory evacuation for the area across the highway from me and down the mtn to and including Manitou Springs and parts of Colorado Springs. I am under a volunteer evacuation here as the fire is less than 4 miles from me. The smoke plume is gigantic and is blowing north away from me ! Weird I can see red smoke and black and Gray smoke from my front deck. The main Incident Command post is at the end of my road 1500 ft away from me.
Will post some smoke pics if I can .
Dicky
EVACUATION IS NOW MANDITORY AS THE FIRE IS CLOSE TO CROSSING THE 4 LANE DEVIDED HIGHWAY IN MANITOU WHICH WOULD GIVE THE FIRE A GREAT CANYON TO CLIME UP HERE. SMOKE SMELL IS GETTING STRONGER !! PART OF COLO SPRINGS AND ALL OF MANITOU ARE EVACUATED, THE MARSHAL HAS NOT COME BY TELLING US TO LEAVE YET JUST THE REVERSE 911 CALL. GOING TO A FRIENDS HOUSE IN wOODLAND PARK WHEN WE LEAVE THANKS FOR ALL YOUR CONCERNS AND THOUGHTS.

Well looks like we may be on the winning side , the fire is now 45% contained and we came home today after 8 days of forced evacuation . Lost only flowere but lots in colo springs lost homes . The fire did make it to the othersid eof the highway but not here thanks. While out the bears came in town and ofcoursr found unprotected garbage and set up new homes . The DOW is now running them out so we expect no truble. The new scars made by the bulldoziers have been in areas that I have been looking at for years as poss amozonit smoky find area and as soon as the fire people let me up ther ( just across the highway 1/2 mile and clime up. ) the fire is still burning up the mtn side and we still have smoke but all looks good.. YEA YEA !!!!i

Great News, Dicky!!! Glad you are finally able to return home and have a home to return to. Sorry to hear about all those that don't. A good hard rain will help wash those new clearings, and help dampen what's left of that fire. Keep us posted. Joe

All is well this morning just a few flowers died , red cross came in last night and is offering to feed and give supplies to residenc persons for 3 days --Thanks to red crorr and the firefighters for a great effort !!!! porch just before I evacuated smoke plume from Walmart 1 mile from my house just before I got home from a rock field trip. All is well this morning . Red cross came in last night and is offering food and stuff for the entire area for 3 days , wow what a help ! Got all flowers watered yesterday and today lost only a few , most came back including our tomatoes. YEA! thought I would show a few pics for you to understand how scary it was . some stupid neighbor placed a water sprinkler on their roof before evacuating - I really would not like to see their water bill smoke plume from my front Forrest fire map as drawn by the forestry service. Note my house is in the streets shown on the lower portion , the red is active fire as it approached my home , thanks firefighters or stopping it !!
