Well, I finally got to go hunting for paint rock agate. Rodney Moore set up a trip to an agate site in Alabama and a friend and I made the trip down from Mid. Tenn. About 25-30 other rockhounds showed up and we made the trek up the mountain to the agates. Man, about halfway up I was looking for a mule to ride or something. When we finally made it about 3/4 of the way up, my friend and I headed into the woods and eventually started finding paint rock. This stuff was fantastic! Lots of color and several had pockets of quartz in them. I have one with some amethyst crystals in it. I finally filled up my backpack and after struggling to get it on my back, started down the mountain. I now know something that is tougher than climbing a mountain, descending one with close to a hundred pounds of rocks on your back! I would love to do this again someday, but at 61, I'm going to need to hire me a Sherpa guide or something.

Good for you, Mike! I've wanted to make that hike for quite a while now. Glad to hear there's still some agate left to find.
