I like it. Now if you would just slide Colorado eastward to about a thousand miles eastward, and whittle down those mile high peaks...

I must say, that's the most impressive haul I've seen from Devil's head! That must have been one heck of a pocket. I too like to dig quite a bit up at Devil's head, though admittedly haven't been up there quite as much in the last year or so since we have an 18 month at home and another on the way. Looks like you know your way around up there from that collection. I've found a number of small pockets in my digging around there, but nothing with crystals of that size. Was the topaz from the same pocket, or found elsewhere? I haven't had the luck to come acroass any topaz up there yet. Thanks so much for sharing your finds!

Dicky, this was actually not last season, but the season before. We found the pocket right next to a HUGE area that had been worked extensivly. We were just digging a bit to enjoy the afternoon, as Devil's head is so close to Denver where we live, and bam! my sister hit the first one, and then it was like shooting fish in a barrel. The pocket was a mess though, it was unlike any we had ever worked before, and when it dried out, it really dried out. We have been back a couple of times, but haven't really had much luck until last weekend, then we got onto something pretty sweet. So we'll have to head back out.
I've been digging up there for most of my life, it was a place my family always went cause it was easy, close, and you always find a little something. Its a great day trip and it gets that fix we hounds need.
Mikey,
We did find the Topaz in the same location, but what you see is all that we found. It was very little, and had we not taken a few buckets of junk home to sift, we wouldn't have seen it. My father took me and my family there when I was 6 or so, and he has been looking for Topaz there every year and never found a thing. This was the exception, and its the only time I have ever found it there.
The crazy thing is, its such an over dug area, and now i have proof that the big stuff is still in there!
