Trying to figure out a good metal detector that won't break the bank. Apparently some have trouble indicating pyrite... finding meteorites would be a nice bonus (guessing that's easy the detectable ones would be iron).
Suggestions / Recommendations?

Starting out I would say try a whites xlt...they've been out quite awhile, are user friendly and can be picked up used for about 500 bucks(look on e-bay)....try not to go cheap like Tesero and the like because if you get hooked into this detecting thing thing you will just have to upgrade...you can look for coins and gold both with this machine...it's not the top of the line by any means but I think a good place to start...I've had two of them before upgrading....Coldwatergold

I love my ace 250. i started with a Garrett master hunter cx plus but it was to complicated so I sold it and bought the ace 250. I love it. Simple easy to use and decent for what we do.

If you are planning on detecting old mind dumps for native elements (gold, silver, copper) then try to get a Fisher 1260-X. I have used a few of the newer detectors and they have trouble with big iron and other large junk you find there. The Fisher is also very good on silver coins where there is trash. Once you get used to its signals it can help you locate real treasure.
If you are in the Tucson area this February, stop by the ROCK SHOW and I can show you some of the native silver we found in old mine dumps.

There are many types of metal detectors for sale in the market, so it is really hard to make a decision which one to buy and whee to buy. I searched the internet for a long time and then I bought a gold metal detector, which is really helpful. And when I do metal detecting outside it can really distinguish what kind of the metal that it has detected and give an indication for me. And by using such kind of device I have saved a lot of time and energy. In a word, I love the gold metal detector and have confidence in it.
