The black one on the right that is full of oblong shapes (fossils?) in what seems to be light blue jasper. Been finding some with white banding like the middle one, but alot of times its raised (I came across the name before, garden rose something?)Nice chunk of pineapple jasper on the bottom... The dark ball on the right with fossils looks like an agate. I believe the Superior Agate Festival at Moose Lake is coming up soon. You might want to check it out. The tan ball, middle top, looks like sandstone with veins of quartz. I forget the name of the Garden Rose rock in middle. Nice find. The holy rocks on the left I think are Methodist.

I'd call the one on the right agate where you call it blue jasper. Appears to be dark agate banding in the one on the left also, along with druzy quartz? And with the pineapple jasper, you have opened the whole passel of name-calling. Is it jasper, chalcedony, agate, quartzite, flint, chert? All these classifications would fit, depending on which part of the stone you are viewing. Keep 'em coming.

Didnt mean to start a big name thing...looked like a piece of pineapple is all. Dry humor strikes again! The Methodist one on the left is brecciated something...been finding quite a bit of it. Cant tell in the photo but it seems to be purpleish with flecks of bright reds, and indigo. The agate banding must be an effect of the camera. arappaho Wish I could make it, but my summer is booked. Are there any in the fall?

Nichwhitt, half the fun of collecting quartz is arguing with others about what to call a particular piece. Since you collected the "pineapple jasper" you have the right to call it that, unless you got it from somebody else's named claim and then you can still call it that. However, if you are going to sell the stone, what you call it or it's variety/identity/classification/ origin locality can make a difference.

Nichwhitt, I was just kidding. Never saw a mineral specimen in a rock shop with a label like Quarts var jasper, or Quarts var Tiger Eye. My sense of humor is probably dryer then years.
It is sometimes hard to determine between jasper, chert, flint and a few other varieties. And you always see additions to the label like your pineapple jasper. I kind of like the label.

Its all good...I am little over-eager to identify. Didnt know that location was such a factor with jasper. Still learning and I appreciate everyone's input!

Hey Leonard, Yes, It's called "Agate Days" at Moose Lake and is the third Saturday in July, (I think). Then there is a four day Agate festival/show in Minneapolis starting the Thursday after that. I've never been, but I have been to Minnesota for fishing many moons ago. Can't remember what we were talking jade about, Leonard, but I've got some to work whenever I get around to getting around to it. See you on the next dig and thanks for delivering that box to Rick for me. And no, nichwhitt, I think those are it for the year. Moose Lake sounds like a lot of fun, but watch out for the Stampede! Eechler, don't forget about Quartz var; jaspagate. Y'all have a good weekend! You too Rockshine! Joe
