I posted this on the General Board and I thought I would re-post it here? Thanks.
Hi. I am wondering if anybody has any current information about the status of Gem Field, Nevada. Just a wee bit North of Goldfield, Nevada, off of hwy 95? Is it still open to rock hunting with payment being sent to the address at the sight?
Also, is anyone aware of any other sites in fairly close proximity to Gem Field? Thank you so mch. Chuck

Leonardo: Thanks for your reply. I live in Vancouver, Washington, USA. I have found a sort of multi colored banded, mottled agate and jasper along with apache tears, green, white opalite. I never saw any fossil imprints, although I was never looking. I will give the GMS a try. Again, thanks! Chuck

Chuck I was up there a few weeks ago and there is no box left, nor any information about sending money anywhere. The deposits of jasper though are generally not of that desirable of color. Check the surrounding area for better colors such as dark green, salmon and other colored jaspers.

Thanks for posting the pictures. That's what I have been finding. Is there anything else other than I previously mentioned, in the area not too far from this stuff? I do have a 4x4 Suzuki so I can travel some. Thanks. Chuck

All I found in the Gemfield area itself were the jaspers. But again the best stuff is not in the dig pit but rather I found the surrounding washes to be the best.
In Goldfield itself I found some nice big chunks of bornite (copper iron sulfide, "copper peacock ore"). Other than that I have not spent a lot of time searching that area for stones. I was on my way to Tonopah to look for turquoise the first time I went to Gemfield and made a second trip for part of the day just to get some Jasper. Normally I collect stuff further south in Nevada and in Southern California.
I have found some pretty nice agate in the Tonopah area though including a nice black agate.

Just visited gem field late Jan 2015. It is open with no fees. It is going to be turned into a gold mine with all rocks being crushed as gold ore.If you ever wanted some of this material the time is now.

Hi, this is Sharon and Nadiah, and we have just recently purchased the Gemfield (Nevada) Claims the were owned by Georgia Bowman and her son, Steven. Georgia had a stroke awhile back, but still lives in California (She's in her 90s)and finally granted us a decades long dream of owning these five (fine) claims. We also got a lot of the paperwork, magazine articles, history and letters about the claim as well as assey and spectograph (?) reports for Gemfield.
It has never been a "no fee" operation, but vandels over the years have torn down signs, and taken away the money box. Since Sharon lives in Goldfield, it will be easier for us to do upkeep on the property, post signs for safety and directions, make more GREAT material available, and keep people informed of what is happening with the area. There will also be a sign-in book on site that will allow you to leave comments, but also to warn you about any hazards so that you don't sue us if you stub your toe. It is a BLM Claim, so we won't/can't stop people from going out there BUT, BLM rules say "No mechanical equiptment allowed, picks, shovels and hand tools ONLY."
Our email is Goldfieldart@yahoo.com and our store in Goldfield is GOldfield ART & Business Services, at 306 Crook Street, P.O. Box 5, Goldfield, Nevada 89013-005.
Rainbow Woman (above post) is partly right. There WILL be a new Gold Mine opening up near Goldfield, and it's name will be the GEMFIELD MINE, but it is actually an open pit mine a couple of miles away. They are moving the highway about 2 miles CLOSER to us and moving our sign as well. Our claim will still be open and available for rockhounds, with payment on the honor system, about $1 per pound with discounts for large rocks/quantity to assist with Government fees, claim maintanence and local projects. Rock Clubs that are planning a field trip, can contact us and their members will get a discount, along with a portion going back to the sponsoring club.
Please contact us if you have any questions, our local Goldfield number is 775 485 3789, but we prefer emails...
***PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT SPEED LIMITS IN AND AROUND GOLDFIELD ARE HEAVILY ENFORCED SO MAKE SURE YOU ARE DOING THE SPEED LIMIT BEFORE YOU GET TO THE NEXT SIGN*** We have no way to change their enforcement policies, so we try to warn you because we would rather you spend your money on rocks, not tickets.

June 2018... had a great time digging different colored Jaspers. You can get to the main collecting site by driving 4 miles off the highway at the Gem Fields sign on 95. You can park around the main payment box and easily walk up to the collection site. To further explore the trails you probably would need a four-wheel drive. Bring a rock pick to explore below the surface for some great surprises. It is a dollar per pound on the honor System and Sharon, the owner may be there working. The burros will keep you company. 😏

New Kids on the Block is my favourite pop-band of 90s. NKOTB had so many hits! The ones I remember are 'Tonight', 'Baby, I Believe In You' and their hit 'Step By Step'. These are real songs, not garbage like today! And it is sooo good NKOTB have a tour in 2019! And I'm going to attend their concert in 2019. The concert setlist is here: https://newkidsontheblocktour2019.com/. Check it out and maybe we can even visit one of the performances together!

Look up Sharon Artlip and her contact info in Goldfield. She has control over the claim. Jon Aurich.
