Beautiful. Those are a lot different than the one that I have from Arkansas. I love the way some minerals will appear in so many different forms and colors.

I never dug at Mt Ida. Use to live so close that I thought I could go anytime.

No, did not make the Walworth dig on Sun. Had to take on call at work on Sunday. I'm looking forward to any reports that are posted.
The club field trip to Middleburg and Mt Pleasant Mills on Sat was disappointing. The Calcite was not that great, and very little Strontianite.
Got up to the Wavellite area about 2:00 PM. I did not fine the Wavellite seam until about 4:00 PM. All of the club members left before I found the seam, except for one other individual. He helped me break into the seam. Lets just say we both took plenty of Wavellite Home. We left the quarry just as it was getting dark.

Can you only go there during club sponsored trips?? Never heard of the Middleburg location. A friend of mine is with the Wayne Co. Gem & Mineral club out of New York and he has shown me his wavellite specimens from Mt. Pleasant Mills..he was most definately at the Walworth dig, I'll see what info I can get from him on how the day went and what was found.

Eric would prefer club trips only.
I have an open invitation and can take several others with me to collect any time, but I will not be able to go back until next spring. My schedule is full with family activities for the rest of the year.

Middleburg Quarry is not the best collecting location. It does have travertine, calcite, and massive fluorite. I'm hoping that as they get more into the limestone that we will find cubicle fluorite.

My schedule is about the same, I was thinking next spring also since cold weather is right around the corner...ughhhh, collecting time is short lived. I only have every other weekend to work with as far as getting out somewhere and that's if nothing else is pending. I'll have to join up with NMS so I can attend some of the outings next season.

Last Pic I'm planning on posting. This one is from Sat field trip. Took it out of the Iron Out this morning. I'm not sure if I'm going to do any more cleaning on this one. I still need to trim and clean the other specimens that I found.

I lied. Gong to post several additional pic's. Just took the last of the Wavellite out of the Iron out. Got just a little more trimming to do on some of the specimens. Not sure how I'm going to trim the two larger specimens. Because of soft spots in the sandstone some of the other large specimens became several smaller pieces when I used the hydraulic splitter.

morishidol, beautiful. Did you have to do any cleaning?
I normally alternate between bleach water and iron out on a daily bases for about a week. Because of colder temps I tried rushing the cleaning process on this last batch and only used a stronger solution of iron out - did not damage the specimens, but will not try it again.

Trying to get back up to MPM to get some more Wavellite. Was planning on going yesterday, but the ridge was covered in snow.

Ed, Im in Pittsburgh, id estimate about 3-4 hours from the area. I would love to come collect with you sometime. If there is ever an opportunity to collect there in the future, i would sure love to go on a field trip like that. The wavellite is really cool! Pretty green too, nice contrast with the matrix. My collection is woefully wavellite-deficient. Is this a "once a year" site or something more accessable? Thanks for the pics. Very nice rocks and photos. Ryan

Below is a Wavellite trimmed but not cleaned. I will take another pic after it is cleaned. It look like the Wavellite under the iron staining will be green to yellowish brown. Will find out when it get out of the iron out.

Was playing with it today and took a pic of this turquoise found in the same area as the wavellite. I have several micros from the same area - too small for the Dino Lite.

Quartz/Wavellite (40X) Was trimming some MPM material down. Notice that it was full of micros. Unfortunately I will not have time to go through everything. I promised my wife that I will not pile rocks in the yard, or fill the basement with rocks, so most of it will get thrown out. I thought this was a nice one with the wavellite on the quartz.
