It's the same picture just cropped. I can't get any closer with my camera and have it be clear.

Great picture and good work on the cutting. That is a very clear crystal for "smoky" quartz. Is it that your background rock (looks like pegmatite) is hiding the smoky coloring?

The stone is very clear for smokey quartz. The rock behind it is a chunk of pegmatie with epidote crystalls in it.A friend is a heavey equipment operator and they were working an area called rancho penaquitos in the northern most part of the city of san diego. He was grading an area for homes and streets about ten years ago and was leaving the pegmatite for inspection after work when the boss screamed at him that that isn't his job. He was told to cut the section down right now.The boss turned back to other work and he jumped off and grabbed some pieces. He said the best stuff he couldn't get to with out getting fired but that it was full of these epidote crystalls. Kinda a shame that he couldn't have called in time or left it for me for a weekend or evening.I wonder how much good rock and gem gets destroyed this way around the world? 20 million years in the making gone in a day.
