I had a great time with Rick and all of my rockhound friends at the Diamond Hill dig. Thanks to Jim for letting me dig in his hole after he left! A special thanks to John from Ohio and Jennie for being great digging partners. Here's a specimen I recovered from an area where the transition from amethyst/smokey quartz was switching to the skeletal. The piece weighs about 40 lbs and has a few amethyst amongst the drusy on the front and some amethyst on the back (all pale). The really neat thing with this specimen is the smokey spray of DT's crystals on the top! I will bring the piece with me to my next Magma dig. It's really a cool addition to my collection. Thanks again to Rick, Steve, and Romare for the companionship and laughs around the fire! Thanks to Chet for allowing an addict to satisfy his addiction! ;D Here's the link: picasaweb.google.com/106762713315658580475/DiamondHillPics?authkey=Gv1sRgCKLP67TBku7M3AE&feat=directlink

It looks like you got into the good stuff - congratulations. How will you display such a large specimen and do the doubles so up very well?

I actually built a stand out of some styrofoam covered in some black felt. Had the extra styrofoam leftover from the box my "Black Friday" LED TV came in. It sits up very nice for display once I carved out a little nest for it in the foam. I'll shoot a couple more pics and post em. This piece came from the amethyst pit. I got several other large quartz specimens, but nothing with the color and crystal size this piece had. It's much better in person! Jon

Hi Ryan,
No, this piece came from one of the sides towards the skeletal pit and access road.
