After several weeks of talking about it; Hawkewind and I finally managed to meet and do a bit of rockhounding here in Metro Denver. I'll give a brief synopsis of our adventure and Hawke can chime in as time allows. I'm hoping his pictures are better than mine. We met in Golden just before dawn and began our trek up to the top of North Table mountain. I had to stop about three times testifying to my lack of exercise this year. Hawke took some photos of the sunrise and deer as we made our way down to the quarry. Once at the quarry we roamed around in search of material... which at this location isn't hard to find. After about thirty minutes Hawke decided to explore the upper reaches of the quarry. I tagged along as I had never actually climbed up there before. The next few photos are what we found. This was a huge vug (not that you can tell by my photos) that extended way to the right of where I aimed the camera. However in my defense I was completely amazed by the spider web like material (Mesolite) that we found covering the Chabazite. You could actually blow on this material and see it wave around. For years I had heard about Mesolite taking a form like this.... but I had never seen it.... until yesterday. In closing we had a great time and Hawke even made it back to his homestead in time to watch the Broncos have their a$$es handed to them. Thank God I'm not into football anymore! ;D Ira

Hello, I had a blast....I will post close ups of the material we found with my 35mm which will show it up much better....look back for posts in a few days for those. Here are some pics with the bad camera on location. The moon as we hiked really early; Here is the sunrise overlooking Denver from the top; Here is the vug still in the massive boulder; And here is the material from mainly the vug we chipped away; Finally, here is a boulder just hanging out in the area;

Earthn I really wish I could answer your question but honestly I don't know. I do know that it will take at least a couple of forms.... the webbing and the feathery/curly fry form Ira

That is one pretty, oops I mean, Handsome vug! You make it sound like you "expected" to find it. Attitude does make all the difference. Anyway, Thanks for the pics, of the rock and surrounds. Glad y'all got together. Looks like a great day. Joe
