This big ole rock maker has most of Europe grounded.. And that's hard to do. They say in the past this thing erupts for like a year at a time. They are saying it could drop global temps. 1.5 degrees for 6mos., if it stops now. There goes Al's global warming plot. Sure would like to go collect some there. It would be nice to get some new fresh rocks instead of these million year old wore out things we pick up. .. Then again if a million year old rock is as hard as these. Is a new rock harder? If my sandcastle engineering is not to far off. The way that the three cones of this thing are around this mountain center. It looks like it wouldn't take much to collapse the whole thing. And if its like a sand castle it will be quick and violent. This picture was taken with a special camera on board the Icelandic coastguard’s TF-SIF research plane. The picture shows three craters in the Eyjafjallajokull volcano.

Well I guess "new" is relative. The stuff that was remelted deep in the earth to form these "new" rocks are ~ 4.5 billion years old. Everything is just reformed using 4.5 billion year old material. Everything on the planet is made from atoms created inside of a star even before that. "We're made of star stuff" -- Carl Sagan.
