DH and I are so excited. Riviera and his wife are in the air flying to Seattle, even as I type!!! A box of samples, lovely things, arrived today in the mail. Samples from many of the places I read about in these posts!!! One of my favorites is from Fort Drum. Florida!!! The crystal structure is wonderful in the shell. Can't wait to hear more about these things. We are spending all day Tuesday at Robinson Quarry for natrolite needles in pillow basalt (where the lava went into salt water) and then drive to Beaver Valley Quarry for many of the zeolite "ites". I am not too up on these micromount things but love the wire copper found occasionally in one end of the quarry. DH and I are more into agates, jaspers, jade, etc. but our friend I wrote to you before who was in Iraq and had his collection stolen, is going to meet us at Robinson and can be of much more help to Riviera. Friend returned about a month ago to Fort Lewis, WA and gets off base often. He was at our house for an hour or so today to get Tuesday set up.
I went out into our rock pile today and picked out many samples for Riviera. They are totally different from what he sent me. Part of the fun of things from different areas!! I have some limb casts, petrified wood, opalized wood, quartz crystals which instead of being short and wide are up to 4 inches long and water clear on a matrix base, heulandite samples, one dogtooth calcite crystal similar to the ones I posted a few months ago from the bat cave in Montana, wonderstone from Idaho/Oregon border, thundereggs both cut and whole, agate, jasper, and I am looking for some jade. Might have to make DH fire up the saw.
If anyone else is coming out west, please let me know. We are having so much fun getting ready for this meeting and it is like Christmas, putting together goody boxes!!!
