Well, we are home from our first weekender of the year!!! What a lovely weekend we had. On the way down to the dig (which is just north of Portland, Oregon) we stopped at a place called Wolf Haven. It is a sanctuary for wolves and wolf/dog hybrids that doofuses think would make a macho pet!! When they mature and act like wolves, then they are dangerous and not at all petlike, so this place takes them in, neuters and spays them and shelters them. They are absolutely beautiful animals but should never have been caught and tried to be tamed!!!
Yesterday there were 88 people from 5 to mid-80s digging for carnelian, crystal and jasper. We dug in the trees and found mostly crystal. Some people went to an area called the beaver ponds and they dug in icky clay mud and got carnelian. No matter where we dug, everyone seemed happy but one woman who walked around our tree area all day complaining that she had found nothing. Well, she never stopped complaining long enough to dig!!! I expect she thought it would jump up out of the ground and into her bucket!!! She also was totally clean and decked out in full makeup!! I felt positively dowdy in my shirt and bluejeans, down in a hole picking through the dirt my hubby was shoveling up from deeper!!!
It was a thoroughly lovely weekend. I have a digital camera now and do have some pictures of some of the nicer things found and also of some of the wolves. I don't know how to post them or to make the size right but if NCMineralman doesn't care, I could email them to him and he might be good enough to post them for me. Are you interested?
Have a good one. Basket
