So what kind of camera are you using Rick, I have seen the wonderful pictures you take and post and I gotta know what features and pixel units and zoom capabilities it has. What does every body use for their rock shots. Matri you are the picture poster have you got any hints for me? Pat

WOW big bucks But ya gotta admit they are the best pictures. Don't know if I can afford something that much maybe Maitri can give me some info. I do think that Sony is the best camera but they have so many to choose from and I don't need micro shots just some good close up shots of 2 ta 3 inch specimums. Is it better to have digital zoom or optical zoom or is it better to have a little of each? Pat

What kind of buckets are you talking about? Or should I quess that if we get enough people to show up at the room we could use a small cement mixer to make the drinks...LOL How many MP's is that camera? The one that Rick has I found on ebay and it sold for 611.99 with extra memory and a bag and cleaning kit. I thought about it but dang that's too much money. I want to spend 2 ta 3 hundred but no more. Gotta budget my money for Rocks lol. Pat

In my opinion it is more important to pay atention to the lens material than the mp count. Many of the lower end cameras ($300. or less) have PLASTIC lenses. If the camera does not have glass optics, DO NOT BUY IT! It is also better to have more optial zoom than digital. Digital just manipulates the pixels tharough the manufactureres programs, which vary in quality. Look for readily available options for close up and tele lenses. Make sure it is a memory style that is readily available everywhere. When I was in Europe last year compact flash and smart media were just about everywhere. Several brands now sport theit proprietary memory cards, which cold be a problem if you run out of memory and have more photos to take. I personally have a Kodak dc-290 which was as good as it got several years ago when I bought it. It is fairly large in body, but has a huge lens surface and the lens is a Nikor. Hard to beat Nikon optics. It is only 3 mp, but the picture quality beats the pants off the Olympus and Canon 5mp's that friends use. One like it still goes for around 300 on ebay. If you are buying on ebay be very leary of "factory refurbished" cameras. For REALLY super images consider a digital SLR like the Fuji finepix S2. The body without a lens runs about $2,000. With lenses you will sink over 3k for a functional unit. ;D ;D ;D
