This first piece of Spalerite below is from Hot Springs North Carolina and has been in my collection since the late 1960's. It is under long wave light and the blue is just the reflection of the light. This second sphalerite below is from the ZCA Mine in West Pierrepont, New York and the left side is in short wave light and the right side in long wave light. Dennis

Koolaid - Would you happen to know if those sort of specimens are still available in Hot Springs these days? I know Marcy would LOVE to go find some of that for herself. Anybody out there know of a good collecting site?

Pennsylvania sphalerite is available if people want to dig for it. You just have to go "golfing." A quick google for the golf course will provide anybody with enough sphalerite to last a lifetime. Not sure if it fluoresces, though. Plenty of pyromorphite, too. -gld

I guess I'm going to have to buy me 1 of them there black lights . I got some local sphalerite and am dying to see what it looks like . Might be checking out my favorite quarry some dark night , too . The same dolomite breccias host plenty of zinc deposits all across this state , and , there is at least 1 reference to sphalerite in some lithology descriptions from this quarry .
So far I have only found calcite , dolomite , and , some chalcopyrite in crystaline calcite .
