All of us do not know when the gems and minerals were actually formed.I do have one specimen in my collection that I do know precisely when it was formed.Mine was formed on July 16,1945 at 0530 MST .Yes this is Trinitite. In 1979 I was able to trade some gem quality dinosaur bone for a 5 gallon bucket full of Trinitite. The gent I aquired it from collected it before the collecting was shut off.

Cool, bet the guy probably wishes he had it back since there is no more (supposedly). Was any radioactivity in your bucket left?

Cathy, the stuff does still register on my Gieger counter but is safe. The postal service will allow it to be mailed if that answers it.The radon it possibly emmits is more of a concern. The gent I aquired it from passed away in 1982,long before Trinitite became expensive.Your right about the avalibility of the material.Collecting at the Trinity site was shut down in 1950 ..... I think?
