The pictures are great. Can you write us a trip report about your searching for this material? We would like to hear about your trip and more about the area where the specimens are found.

Dear Lee : There are several sources from where we "hunt " for agates in our Country. Mi intention is to publish some pictures and short comments about them. I will try my best to write some short trip report about each source.

That would be great. It is alway nice to learn about where and when the various rocks are found that are posted on the board. As an example, do you live near these sources, are the rocks found easily, what do you do with the rocks, and are they hard to find? Any descriptions you can provide will be great. Have you had a chance to review our field trip reports? These will give you some idea of the MAGMA trips and the people who attend.
Thanks for the great pictures.
Lee

Those are great pics, the agate in the matrix is really neat looking. Are the little indentions in the matrix where smaller agates were?

Hi Drew: The little indentions were of smaller agates (really about 1cm +/-) These smaller agates were spread all over; none of them were worth collecting. There are many agates similar to Australians , but bigger in size. Most of the agates we collected went through a very serious selection (three years of selecting and discarding) Lots of the rough material found was full of cracks or showed nothing inside. Agates with Chattoyance effect

So the small ones wouldn't be worth tumbling?

No ; they were white inside ; nothing interesting for tumbling. Ricardo & Claudia

Thanks Patagonian for the pics. My mouth is still watering, especially for the large agate still embedded in matrix. Are any of the agates translucent. If so, are any for sale. I use translucent agates in my "suncatchers" and "agate lamp shades". They are assembled with solder and lead came, much like the way leaded glass windows are made. I am always looking for a source of translucent agates. Check out my Fairburn Agate Site at: www.angelfire.com/nb/rockman
