This weekend, the Berks Mineralogical Society had a field trip to the New Chester County mine located in Phoenixville, Pa. This mine is one of several that are now located on the site of the Pickering Valley golf course. Some others are the Wheatley mine and Brookdale mine. For this trip, the club arranged to have a back hoe dig up some fresh areas. Towards the end of the day, some people struck the jackpot and found some museum-quality specimens of pyromorphite, sphalerite, and cerussite. Unfortunately, the hole they were in was cramped and they didn't give up their spots so I wasn't able to claim any of these treasures However, I did get a few pieces of pyromorphite and sphalerite that are pretty decent. Here are some pics: Sphalerite: Pyromorphite: I also decide to add some pics of stuff I've collected a while ago - rutile from fields in Lancaster county and a specimen from the old Behr Garnet mine in Delaware county: Rutile: Garnet: Check out my photo page for all the updates at home.comcast.net/~gronkus/photos.htmTake care all and happy collecting!
