Have been digging up a bunch of rocks lately. Found an odd group, magnetic, heavy - odd markings on the exterior. Posted them on other identification sites- some people said they could be slag, these were found underground in a hill and have stone / other features that don't fit together. Someone else mentioned sandstone - if it is sandstone what else is in these? The black stuff is only on the outside, can be scrubbed off with a brush. Broke some open a few days ago, hoping someone can tell me what's inside of the rocks or what they are / why they are weathered. imgur.com/gallery/aeoLPzkHere's the older galleries with related rocks if those are of any help. I did a streak test on one of these rocks. Some weights and other things are in image descriptions. imgur.com/gallery/xhBZJmXimgur.com/gallery/NXO8CaJimgur.com/gallery/tb5w3E0imgur.com/gallery/TbDyDCMHere's a rock which contains fossils - found in the same layer / spot as these rocks. Ocean creatures could have caused holes in the metallic rocks or saltwater damaged them. Dunno. The rock is pretty magnetic. Already have the fossils themselves identified, rock-boring clams. imgur.com/gallery/YGgplpyI live in Western Pennsylvania - Armstrong County. Any help would be appreciated. Assuming these are formations caused by an ancient ocean. Some of these rocks are weird even with that. Hoping to find fossils next year in that spot again.
