Good afternoon!
Single Dad of two here (10 & 8)... just last week we stumbled across a great podcast series called Ologies by Alie Ward. Last week on the way to school we listened to the episode on Gemology. Instantly my kids were hooked and wanted to learn more. I took my shot and reached out to the interviewee Kelly Sitek- she actually wrote back with some book recommendation for my kids and I.
I've been doing some additional research to try and find what type of rocks and minerals we may find in our area and but I'm running into a lot of dead ends.
We live in NW NJ, just along the Appalachian trail where we do a lot of hiking. I know there are old copper minds that we have come across hiking, but just wondering if anyone has an idea of what type of rocks or minerals we may be able to find in the area.
Thanks!

Thanks! They had a contact us section so I sent them an email seeing if they could assist me. Worth a shot anyway.
I did find these two books at the library. Looks like they may be promising.
Roadside geology of New Jersey [paperback] (2013) By Harper, David Series: Roadside Geology Series.
Geology of Warren County in brief (1976) By Lucey, Carol S.
