My 14-y/o daughter is a crazed rockhound. She has a collection of rocks and fossils that rivals some adults I know. She wants to be a geologist when she's old enough.
She watched a show on Discovery where people were collecting rocks from mountains and mines and she wants to try it. I found a place where we could go. We live in Pine Grove, PA. The area we're going is in Joliette off of exit 107, the Summit Coal Company dump site.
I've never done this before. The place is supposed to have fern fossils and petrified wood and she'd be happy to find just one of either. What can I expect when I get there and what should I bring? It's supposed to be shale and sandstone.

Well, since no one replied, I'm assuming this board is dead. Are there better boards out there?
