So about five years ago me and my wife went on a trip to Franklin N.C. to look for rubies. She wasn't big into camping but I was wanting to show her that camping was more than sitting around a fire drinking beer and dealing with bugs. This was her previous experience with ex-husband and she hated it so it was a up hill battle. I had taken her to a small cabin and horse back riding couple months before this trip and had found a small cabin (pines rv park in Franklin, N.C. nice and cheap) for our activity I planned on taking us panning for rubies. On getting to the cabin I found out that the older retired couple that owned the RV park enjoyed sluicing for corundum and she pointed me to Mason Mountain Mine and Cowee gift shop... important to get the whole name cause alot of them are very similar. We went had fun and on the ride home talked of rock collecting we had both done as kids as well as the other places we had heard about around us. Thus we embarked on a journey together into rock, mineral, crystal, and fossil collecting. Each year we have made it back at least once sometimes more to Franklin N.C. to sluice we have tried several other of the places that claim to be all native and sometimes they are sometimes they aren't but never has it been as easy and abundant as it is at Mason Mount Mine and Cowee gift shop. Our recent trip is below.... AND we have upgraded (camera, computer, software, drone, ect...) so next year (season 2 of videoing our trips) is looking much more professional not as many of you will get sea sick watching. Subscribe I am sure I will get booted soon for advertising our youtube channel. youtu.be/fA0Axotjq24
