Hey everyone! So I've loved crystals and minerals since I can remember and would love to start learning how to identify and find my own specimans. I live in eastern PA and can't travel too far but I am eager to learn more about local dig sites and any advice to get started on my own.

My goal eventually is to make jewelry and beautiful display pieces.

Hello. One of the best experiences I had as a rock collector was in Altoona, Pennsylvania (In which I found numerous fossils in Mudstone, something I can't do in NC). Focus on collecting a variety of specimens, not just ones that look pretty. Divide you collection into minerals, rocks and fossils. If you type in "Geology For (Blank) County, (State)" The USGS has a database of all the geological formations in the area. Know the difference between construction aggregate and natural rocks and minerals. Enjoy yourself, and have fun.
