Hey all my name is Nick. I'm in the Army currently stationed at Ft. Bliss in El Paso, TX. Lately, I have taken an interest into rocks, minerals, and especially geodes! So far I've been digging in New Mexico at Rock hound State park and in Deming, NM. I also purchase rocks and geodes from a shop downtown called GemCenterUSA. The Mexican coconut geodes are awesome. I recently purchased a small wet saw so I am able to cut rocks myself, but I'm having the hardest time finding someone who can help me with polishing. I can't afford a Diamond Pacific polisher and don't have the room for it either. Everyone tells me to look into joining the El Paso Gem and Mineral society..but they only meet on Fridays which is impossible for me with my work schedule... So looking to meet some people from the area on here!

We just spent a day there looking in the dry washes and found lots of garnets, hematite and even a few good sized chunks of turquoise. Demeing and Silver City aren't too far for you either.

Yeah I want to take a trip to Orogrande in the near future for sure, I've been to Deming a couple times got some good stuff at Bakers Ranch. Are you in the El Paso area?

I plan to go visit and am just getting my rock hound on after many many yrs of being out of the "hobby". What should I get my hands digging into when I get there?
