How do tell? I have several pieces of blackish matrix with gold/pryite highlights. Attachments:

I understand the pyrite or fools gold is magnetic. I took my kitchen magnets and rubbed all over. Could not get any kind of magnetic pull from gold in matrix. I'm gonna assume this is real gold.

No, pyrite is not magnetic, neither is gold. Pyrite has a brassy yellow color, gold is, well, gold colored. If you can use a streak plate, it is different than gold. I can't remember for sure, but I think pyrites' streak is dark, gols is gold. You might check for sure on google. Chuck.

Thanks for your input. Actually when I googled the difference, I read that pyrite was magnetic...so I got misinformed cause you are the 2nd rockhound to tell me that is not true.
