I hope everyone forgives me for not being able to attend the Crabtree Dig this weekend, but I did show Rick right where all the emeralds are! I moved right before this weekend, at the same time as I am remodeling this new house, and then have work, kids, and selling the old one, so I've been so busy, I can hardly sit down! I just know you'll do well, and can't wait to see the pictures!

Tom: Have you found an emerald large enough and clear enough to have the stone cut into a ring sized stone yet? If so, how about a before and after picture. I can't wait until someone has a ring made from a Crabtree emerald.

Lee: I have one in particular that is the perfect size and shape for a ring, but I don't know how to cut it, and I really like keeping them in the specimen stage! Oh, well! Glad to hear the dig was great! I was heading to Disney with the kids. Oh, well, again!

Tom: What have you found lately at the Crabtree Mine? I know you must have been there over the holidays. I wish you and your family well this coming year and may all of your days spend at the Crabtree be spectacular !!

Dear Lee: Glad to hear from you. The holidays with my family were great, as every day is. I am so conscious of how each moment is a gift. I think it's from being told from the doctors when I was twenty-four, that I had two weeks to live. I said no, here I am! I moved and have been spending all my time fixing up the new house, and I'm almost done, so I haven't been to the Crabtree lately. I plan to go again as soon as I'm done working here. I definitely am going to be up on the 26th, for the machine dig, since finally it's scheduled on one of the days I don't have the kids! I can't wait! I haven't even unpacked all my rocks yet! As soon as I find the next big emerald at the Tree, I'm going to post it just for you, Lee!
Love and Light, Tom.

Nothing new yet, except I'm really really trying to capture the essence of emeralds through photography, and I've realized it's all in the experience and the setup, two things I need a lot of practice with right now! This is a shot of the one I displayed before, but I think with the new camera it shows some more clear green that's really nice. I'll be back up at the Crabtree just as soon as the snow stops and it gets a bit warmer! Tom.

Okay, you don't have to tell me I need to practice my photograpy, that's why I'm doing this! Anyone have any F stop apeture suggestions along with lighting suggestions for mineral closeups? I would really appreciate that. Okay, I couldn't dig the other day, after an argument my thumb had with a 10 inch carbide chop saw blade, so all I did was surface collect. I swear, the beauty on the right which is a little over 3/8 inches long, was in the road! I didn't throw a shovel into the ground all day long, and managed to pick up a lot of matrix specimens. They're there! They're there! Tom.

Tom, you never cease to amaze me with the specimens. mabey one of these days i'll get to dig with ya and some of that luck will wear off! did you do the surface collecting after the big rain? i've got a broken hand and may have to have surgery soon so i'm right there with ya as far as only surface collecting! keep up the good work and good luck digging aj

Jeremy: This surface collecting was after a big rain, a few days after, but I think nobody else had been up there. A broken hand? Wow, that sounds painful. But you could still surface collect. Up top is fine, in fact, that's where I've found most of my bigger floaters, right on top of the soil. Thanks for your encouraging words. I need them, especially when I go and it's fourteen degrees in the morning! Tell me when you're around, and we'll throw a shovel or two. Tom.

Tom:
We have not heard much from you these past weeks. As you know, we have a club dig scheduled for the 4th of July weekend. How about showing a few pictures of your specimens to get people excited about the Crabtree Emerald Mine. Hope to see you there.

Hey Lee! I created this account for a friend, so I could show him my emeralds. I am down in Peru and have been for the last month, visiting Machu Picchu and trekking around the Amazon. I´m coming home today, so I will check this site when I get home. I bought two incredible emerald specimens down here, one from a guy who didn´t know what he had! I only paid twenty bucks for it! I will reply when I get home, and we will see about getting people excited for the upcoming dig which this time, I will attend! See you in a bit.
Love and Light, Tom.

Okay, Lee I'm back and safe and sound. I had a few actual near death experiences in the Amazon, and when I got to Houston I kissed the ground! Believe me, I'm happier to be here in America than I've ever been in my life. Peru was astounding in many ways, but I love these here hills! Love them! So I had to dive into the Crabtree as soon as I could. Here's some inspirational photos: The first one, is of a series of crystals I found yesterday, with the biggest one in this piece measuring an inch and a half long, and with some really deep green in some of the crystals around back, and then a lighter green in the largest one which is about three quarters of an inch long and pretty big around. This was on top of the ground, down the hill. That's right, just sitting right out there!

Just got back from a few days at the crabtree. We had fun and got a few bits of green. This was my best gemmy one, small but nice. A few nice beryls in matrix This one is kind of decomposing, it is in a chalky softer matrix. Small emerald, golden berly, garnet?, nice mica book. Overall a good fun dig, we had about a dozen or so members from our local lapidary club dig with us on Sunday, most got some green, I will post some more photos when I can.

This is an emerald mass that's over an inch and three quarters long, and it's deep green. It was found up top too, right near that old tree that everyone has dug under, in a mass of biotite without any white rock around it. I have been finding most of my emeralds lately in masses that I usually don't even look in, because so many have been missed. How many more are there? I'd say, a few million!

Dear Bammer: I just wanted to point out the obvious about the Crabtree and its emeralds, and if you look at your post with the clear green ended multi-colored emerald you will see what I mean. What I mean is, there isn't any other place in the world you can get emeralds with that deep and clear a green color that I know of. I have Muzo emeralds, which are supposed to be the best in the world, but they are a funny green, not really deep emerald green like the good ones at the Crabtree. Which means that we have access to the best quality emeralds in the world bar none. I have seen Russian, African, Australian, Colombian, and others from other parts of the world, and not one of them compares to the best ones from our own home town location. We are so fortunate that Rick managed to have the club take over the management of Crabtree, so here's to all that effort, which has certainly paid off. Can't wait until the machine dig, and to point out where all the good ones are left!
Love and Light, Tom.

Tom: I appreciated your posting of the emerald material from the Crabtree Mine. I can't imagine that other nice specimens await being found by our club members during our 4th of July site visit. All I want is to be lucky enough to find just one of the nice emeralds like you find. Actually, I know you spend a lot of time at the Crabtree to reap the rewards you have collected.
Several months ago, you posted some pictures of jewelery you have made from your specimens. Can you share a few of these pictures again with the club to show what can be made from the emeralds which they may be lucky enough to find?
Good to have you back in OUR country and I look forward to talking with you about your trip during our club trip in July. See you there.

Okay, this is a necklace I made for my daughter. It was wrapped so nicely by Linda Creason. She's great! The emerald is clear, perfect, rounded, and a heart shape in the heart shape, hanging in a piece of clear quartz it grew in. Crabtree perfection! The other piece is earlier in these posts on page one or two. Thanks for asking Lee! Love and Light, Tom.

I picked up this rock at the Crabtree. There is some quartz at the mine so I didn't think anything of it. It kinda had a greenish tinge to it. So I sawed it up.(No rocks are safe when you have a saw) There were some clear areas that probably would facet a stone or two. What do you think it is? Aqua? Quartz with a green tinge? a lighter green emerald? There is no outside crystal structure to give any clues. I haven't scratched it with quartz yet. You never know what you may find. I tell most folks that I find more emeralds when I get home that I see at the mine. Once you scrub the biotite with a wire brush or tumble a few pieces I often discover a small emerald ot two.
