Thanks, guys. I have to correct the info given. This did not come from Mason Mtn mine. Chris says she got it on the net from somewhere. What can it be other than a specimen? facetted--cabbed-- thanks, fredda

I would say it is a pale chevron amethyst because of not seeing the cleavage this is usual in fluorite. If it is fluorite it should scratch easily with any piece of quartz but true amethyst won't. Chevron amethyst to me is not a true amethyst but more like purple quartzite. Try a scratch test.

Hi Dennis. Well, I tried scratching it with a piece of quartz crystal and it seemed to scratch. It would not scratch the crystal, tho. Probably should not have but I had it in some M acid for sev days to remove some rusty looking stuff that would not dissolve with SIO. Could it be that I etched the outside of it and that is what shows as scratches? Chris was here earlier today and she called it chevron banded amethyst. Geeez-- now I don't know what to call it.
