I have been at it again, now I have developed a simple little picture uploader for members of the board to upload their pictures to share. A few rules, - Only 5 pictures (or less) can be uploaded at a time.
- They must be image files. Either jpeg or gif. If the utility does not upload your files and it is an image file, please contact me.
- The maximum size is 1 MB.
The instructions to upload files is, 1. Navigate to www.varockhounder.com/upload/2. Click Browse on the first box and browse to the image file on your computer, then click OK. The path to the picture will be in the box. 3. Repeat step 2 for as many pictures you would like (up to 5) 4. Click Upload File(s). Be patient, if the files are big, it may take a little bit. 5. You will now find a page containing some textboxes. In the textboxes you will see a path, surrounded by img tags (for this board) 6. Select the whole string and right-click and click Copy (you may notice that your picture is renamed, this is to keep from overwriting other people's pictures. To see the picture, just click Show Me!). 7. Paste the string into your thread wherever you want the picture. If anyone has any problems with this utility, please let me know by either email or by posting to the board. Also, pass any suggestions on to me and I will try to implement them! Thanks, Drew

Forgot to mention that this has been tested in Firefox 1.0.5.4 and Internet Explorer 6.0. If anyone has problems with this utility and you are using a different browser than above, just drop me an email and tell me what browser you are using.
Thanks, Drew

I thought you guys would want to know some friends of ours came down there last week and dug for gems. They found some interesting stuff and just flat out had a grand time. Thanks to the hospitality of the North Carolinians we now have two more rock hounds. Of course Donald and I knew that all along. So he will have a buddy going along on some hunts here in Virginia but I do thank all of you for showing them a really nice time.

Drew:
Your procedure for posting pictures works great !! I tried it tonight for the first time in a while and the picture is now on the board. I found it easy to insert the picture once I had generated the post and hit modify to allow me to insert the picture as you instructed. Also, it really helped to use the controls of "My Documents" to reduce the size of the picture to allow it to fit under the test of the post. If the picture is larger than the width of the text, then it enlarges the whole page of posts.
Thanks again for the picture posting method. I will use it again, and again, and again. It's picture time everybody.

Lee,
I am glad everything worked out! I was planning on making some revisions, but with the wedding and everything going on I haven't had time!

How do you reduce the picture size? Pixels?

Colorado, You need to use an image program to reduce the size of the image. A good, free program is Picasa, picasa.google.com/. Go download it, and use it to reduce the size. Drew

Cathy,
I hate to burst your bubble, but I think the only pics that Colorado was going to post were on his newborn son, Cade...

I tried your method but somehow it would not work on my picture so I sent it to Rick. I must be doing something wrong.

Brian, Sorry I missed your question, all you need to do is upload a picture using the directions above and keep the page up, Then click on Profile (at the top, beside of the Dirty Rockhounds logo), then click on Modify Profile. Paste in the URL from the upload page (minus the tags) and click Modify Profile. This should do it. Sapphiregirl, Not sure what could've gone wrong... I tried it just a second ago and it worked alright... Depending on the size of the file, and the connection speed, it could take some time to get uploaded. Did it give you an error or just didn't work? The only formats that can be uploaded are JPG and GIF, so if you were trying to upload a different format, then that could be the reason it didn't work. I think I have a different format because I got to the first stages but never saw where to copy to and paste. Anyway I emailed it to Rick and hopefully he will get it.

I managed to post a photo, although I resized it and it is still huge. However, can't figure out how to do my avatar. I use photobucket to resize for avatars and web photos, and then put the URL where it is asked for; but my avatar is not showing up. Any Ideas?
Thanks, Crystal Ocean

I just checked out my attempt to post a pic. I am so disappointed, gotta figure this out. The string I had in my reply is not there, niether is the piic??
I have been hunting in my front yard and rock pile furnished by previous tennents. They are very pretty and very interesting. A couole of them appear to be hollow, have a nice ring to them when I pick at them with my hypodermic needle. I can shoot liquids right thru the veins of chalcedony. Some are fire agate, petrified wood, even found an arrow head or a tooth. I think it is an arrowhead. Like I have stated b-4, there are still lots of Indian ruins buried out here. It could take a couple lifetimes to find them all. They may not be renewable, but they are very numerable, more than we could ever dig and preserve.
I say, rob those sacred buriel grounds, make millions off black market merchandise.. Just kidding, bet I got ya though, huh? No thanks, A trust set up by the Nature Conservancy can maintain research and development. Its a money maker for sure. AJ can reap the short time guests and even expand more of the tourist trade again. The use of ethnic revenue will turn the tide of this town and once again peace will be for all of us.

Crystal Ocean,
Give me the filename that it gave you and I will check it out.
Betheejaymes,
Post the string that comes out of the Upload application... just put <> around it... that should get it up so I can take a look.

I tried posting pics several times. Got them to be posted but they were huge. I even tried using my HP software to resize the pic down to 25%. Posted it again but still came out huge. Anyone have any suggestions. I know I must be doing something wrong.

I just figured another (easier) was to re-size the pictures. I just e-mail them to myself and hit the option to resize the picture before I send them. I don't know if it would work for everyone, but it is easy with the business version of windows XP. The pictures went out at 2MB and came back at 38k.....what a miracle.
