Crabtree visit Sunday, 20 Jul. There was a lil bit of activity there. 3 or 4 People were there when we arrived, then 2 more arrived. To say it was hot.....would be an understatement. RIck, that beam hanging over the path.......3 of the guys there on Sun., including myself managed to get nasty knots on our heads trying to duck underneath it. Ouch! When you duck under the one, you dont see the second and.....BAM.... Got lucky, popped a rock open and there it was.... Scoop found this one. This one? Is it Ochre? It isnt clay, its solid but soft, what appears to be mica flecks. Any ideas?

;DI find Crabtree emeralds months after I have visited the mine. I load up on rocks that look promising and then in the off digging season I can just pick one up and start picking at it untill it either produces an emerald or I throw it in the woods.

Hey, everybody. I trust your summer was fun? I was up at the Crabtree today, and wow! There was new material all over the ground, so much so, that I didn't even get a chance to throw my shovel into the dirt. I was so busy picking up specimens. There were literally, hundreds of small green shards from who knows where, probably busted off of rocks from all the movement lately, and then there were some really clean green specimens right on the ground, right up top. I think I have to reassess my estimate of how much material is up there. There's more than I thought! Can't wait for the next machine dig! This picture is of one nice specimen that was up top, right near the road, and next to it is a matrix specimen with plenty of green. There were also many matrix cutable specimens for cabachons up there today too. All I've got to say is, get on up there! Love and Light, Tom.

I was up at the Crabtree a few weeks ago and have been meaning to post some pics. Crabtree in September. Couldn't decide which one of those I liked better. But here's a pic for you to "Believe It Or Not". I found this while I was sifting my way thru the tailing piles. I had the place to myself that weekend and when I found it I said,"Right, Fat chance anyone is going to believe this." So, anyway, it's a Palmer, circa 10,000-11,000 BP, made out of good quality grey chert, probably from Tenn. Now I can make a Crabtree Pendant. I hope writerman doesn't mind but, Love & Light Y'all, Joe

Hey, that's interesting! Where was that chert found? I mean, in what place at the Crabtree? I'd like to find some artifacts relating to the Indians who once inhabited that area too. Thanks for posting that!
Love and Light, Tom.

Yes Rick, I was wondering if anyone had recorded finding any arrowheads or other Indian artifacts at the Crabtree. And to address your question too, Tom, I'm sure this find is pretty much of a fluke. The ground is so disturbed, but there is that rock wall dropping straight down into the pond. The mine could've been a seep or spring before it was mined and I'd guess sitting on top of that rock would've been a good vantage point. That arrowhead is the first sign of any artifacts I've ever seen there and I was pretty gosh darn surprised when I saw it. Just one more thing to keep your eyes out for at the Crabtree. They were everywhere before us. Joe

I thought I'd share three pictures of Crabtree material. This first one is a cabachon pendant I wire wrapped, and I know my wrapping skills are what they are, but I love the piece.

Okay, that first was was not a wire wrap. It was of the best emerald I've found at the Crabtree to date. It's such a clear green! The next ones are two wirewraps.

I wrapped this because I thought the black surrounding the green looked dramatic. The next one I wrapped because there were so many clear emerald crystals popping out of the matrix, it's one of the more spectacular specimen wise that I've done.

Thanks for sharing, Tom. I can't seem to get enough of that place. Must be the Irish in me. Really like the diamond shaped pendant and your specimen. Beautiful! Scott and I managed to make it up there again this past weekend. Sunday was a gorgeous day to be there! Joe

Thanks. I love the shape and in rock the popping emeralds are even more impressive, because you can see the shapes coming out of the matrix. I know that we've only dug up barely the tip of the iceberg at The Crabtree. There's stuff there we haven't even seen yet. But I've imagined it! I'll be there at the next machine dig if it's a weekend I don't have my kids, for certain.
Love and Light, Tom.

Okay, I know what my wirewraps look like, I'm just beginning! But I thought I'd share a few more Crabtree pieces. Thanks for looking! The Crabtree Lives! (They are all much prettier in stone)

Wow. Really nice finds! The color of that last piece, and that crystal to the right in particular, looks like it would look really good with some closeup photography. It's my love affair with that deep perfect green that keeps me coming back to The Tree. Nice work! Thanks for sharing.
Tom.

Just wanted to keep everyone inspired for the upcoming machine dig, no matter how cold it is! Today was beautiful though. Here's a 7/8 inch long gem quality piece I found today. Tom.

Here's one that's about three eights of an inch long, but perfectly formed. Today too.
