wanting to know if anyone has any knowledge of the opal that can supposedly be found in Georgia (e.g. quality) - Stone Bluff below Augusta was supposed to be a source, not sure if still is or it is all private property now. Hyalite is a variety that has been found in the northern regions of the state, but never laid hands on any and the pics on the net don't show much color/flash.

There have been reports of common opal around Shell Bluff....Same area as the Savannah River chert/agate.. Some of the the local "experts" believe this material has "opalized" I have a few pieces, but not really sure...I believe the Jury is still out on this....
